Teachers and Principals:
Share your Ideas that Worked! and You Could Win Great Prizes!


We want to hear your story. Share your Ideas that Worked! and tell us what you did to bring Get Ready with Freddie! lessons to life in your classroom, at home, or in the community.


You can enter The Kids Prepare America Educator Contest in one of two ways:

1. Click here to download and print the Official Rules and entry form. READ the rules carefully, fill out the entry form, attach the form to your essay, and mail it in!
OR
2. Enter The Kids Prepare America Educator Contest online.



Eligibility:
Contest is open to educators currently teaching or administering 3rd and/or 4th grade students in the 50 United States and the District of Columbia.

Requirements:

  • In 300 words or less, describe how you used the Get Ready with Freddie! program with your class or school as part of The Kids Prepare America Educator Contest to raise community awareness about disaster and emergency preparedness. Tell us how your lessons influenced students to take action to work with their families or others in the community to prepare.
  • Each essay must be original and must be typed on an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper. Include your name, home address and phone number, email address, grade taught, and school name, phone number, and address on your essay. Complete, sign, and staple an official entry form to your essay. Your signature indicates your compliance with the Official Rules.
  • Educators may also enter online. Click here to enter today.
  • One entry per educator.

Judging Criteria:
Entries will be judged on creativity and originality (30%); demonstration of class/school participation (30%); clarity of expression (20%); and adherence to contest rules (20%).

Teacher Prizes:
One hundred (100) educators will be selected to receive prizes for an Idea that Worked! Each educator will receive a $100 Lowe's gift card for himself or herself, as well as 35 packages of Sylvania DOT-it Checker lights to share with students. The Ideas that Worked! may be posted by the Home Safety Council on its Web site at www.kidsprepareamerica.org.

Deadline:
All entries must be postmarked by November 30, 2007 and received by December 14, 2007. See the Official Rules for the mailing address.

Winners will be announced on or around January 30, 2008.
